SENIORS FOR CLIMATE DAY
Richmond County Municipal Council has proclaimed October 1, 2024, as Seniors for Climate Day in Richmond County.
October 1st is Canada’s National Seniors’ Day and the UN International Day of Older Persons. This is a day dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments and contributions of seniors. We can all think of a senior who has made a difference in our lives. They are our mentors, teachers, grandparents, and loved ones. They are volunteers and role models.
This year, Richmond County Municipal Council wants to also raise awareness about the "Seniors for Climate" initiative. This initiative urges immediate climate action to ensure a sustainable future, as climate change increasingly impacts our health and food security in Richmond County through challenges like coastal erosion and severe weather. The Municipality of the County of Richmond acknowledges the efforts of the Seniors Take Action Coalition, the Dr. Kingston Memorial Community Health Centre, and Richmond River Roots Market Garden for advocating for local climate action.
