Richmond County Group / Organization Recognition

The Seniors Take Action Coalition (STAC) was established in January 2016 following a seniors conference held in Richmond County in the fall of 2015. What began as a discussion among older adults, volunteers, and community partners quickly evolved into a collaborative organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for seniors throughout Richmond County.

Over the past decade, STAC has become a respected voice for older adults, promoting age-friendly communities, advocating for the needs of seniors, and fostering strong partnerships with local organizations, government agencies, healthcare providers, and volunteers.

In July 2023, STAC achieved registered non-profit status in Nova Scotia, enabling the organization to expand its impact and access additional funding opportunities to strengthen and grow programs and services for seniors across Richmond County.

Today, through advocacy, education, outreach, community events, its quarterly newsletter, Better with Age, monthly and weekly community calendars, conferences, research collaborations, and initiatives such as community-based grief support programs and Mental Health First Aid for Older Adults, STAC continues to help older adults live healthy, safe, connected, and independent lives within their communities.

On September 9, 2026, STAC celebrated its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of dedicated service and meaningful contributions to the well-being of seniors in Richmond County. Through its commitment to supporting older adults and strengthening communities, STAC truly deserves this recognition.

For more than 30 years, Telile Community Television has played an essential role in the life of Richmond County. As one of only nine independent, not-for-profit over-the-air television stations in Canada, Telile is a unique and invaluable community resource.

Throughout its history, the station has captured and celebrated the spirit of Richmond County by showcasing its people, music, traditions, and cultural events. Its deep connection to the community and ongoing commitment to local storytelling have made a significant contribution to the well-being, identity, and vitality of the region.

Telile has consistently demonstrated a willingness to innovate, embrace new programming ideas, and provide coverage of community events whenever possible. Their dedication to serving residents and highlighting the activities, stories, and events that matter most to them has made a lasting and meaningful impact on our community.

Through its programming and community engagement, Telile continues to inform, connect, and celebrate the people of Richmond County. Its commitment to preserving local culture, sharing community stories, and providing a platform for local voices is deeply valued and greatly appreciated.

The Jolly Club of L’Ardoise has long been a cornerstone of community life, enriching the lives of seniors through the dedication, hard work, and commitment of its volunteer members.

Most recently, the Jolly Club successfully organized and delivered a highly popular take-away Fish Cake and Bean fundraiser. What made this event especially remarkable was the overwhelming support it received from community members, highlighting the strong connections and goodwill the organization has fostered over the years.

The strength of the Jolly Club lies in its spirit of collaboration and volunteerism. Time and again, members come together to support one another, organizing events and initiatives that create meaningful opportunities for seniors while strengthening community bonds. Their collective efforts reflect the organization’s mission of promoting engagement, inclusion, and active community participation, ensuring that rural seniors have access to valuable social and recreational opportunities.
