Property tax help for eligible households: The Low-Income Property Tax Exemption Program provides a credit of up to $200 on the property tax account of eligible Richmond County households.

Who Can Apply

  • You are a permanent resident of the Municipality of the County of Richmond.
  • You hold legal title to the property.
  • The property is your primary residence.
  • The property is assessed in your name.
  • Your tax account does not have arrears from previous years.
  • Your household taxable income is $35,000 or less.
  • You have not received a property tax rebate from another governing body.

Who Cannot Apply

  • Properties with outstanding liens related to tax sale proceedings or dangerous and unsightly premises are not eligible.
  • Seasonal residences, vacation properties, and income properties are not eligible.
  • Residents who are eligible to receive a property tax rebate from another governing body are not eligible for this exemption.

Application Deadline

The application deadline is December 31.

How to Apply

Complete the pdf Low-Income Tax Exemption Application Form(150 KB) and include proof of household taxable income.

Proof of income is required for everyone 18 years of age or older who lives in the home. This may include a Canada Revenue Agency Notice of Assessment or Proof of Income Statement.

Submit the completed form and proof of income to the Tax Office by email, mail, or in person.
