Burning restrictions are updated at 2:00 pm daily. Burning is not allowed between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm
Wildfire Risk Season Begins March 15th until October 15th
In Nova Scotia, almost all wildfires are human-caused, so prevention is our first line of defense.
It is everyone’s responsibility to practice safe burning, and provincial burn restrictions are in place to help you do that.
What you need to know and do:
- There is absolutely no open fire burning allowed between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. This is because that’s often when the risk of wildfires is greatest.
- Check the daily Burn Safe map on Government’s website. The map will be red from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. because there is no burning allowed during those hours. It’s updated every day at 2 p.m. to show where and when burning is allowed that day:
- Counties marked in green can burn after 2 p.m.
- Counties marked in yellow can burn after 7 p.m.
- And counties marked in red, cannot burn that day, because the risk for wildfire is too high in that area.
Burning Restrictions
Burning restrictions apply to open fires, including at campgrounds. This includes campfires, bonfires, burn pits, brush burning, chimeneas and similar appliances.
Burnsafe tips
Always make sure a fire is completely extinguished.
Save brush for burning in the winter.
A PERMIT IS STILL REQUIRED if burning is for: industrial land clearing, agriculture, building construction, blueberry crops. See local DR office.
You may also call 1-855-564-2876 (BURN) for daily burning restrictions.
Violations
You could be fined $25,000 if you don't follow provincial fire restrictions.
