
Dog Registration
All dog owners in Richmond County are required to register their dogs in accordance with the Dog Control By-law. To register your dog, complete the pdf Dog Registration Form(5.38 MB) .
Owner Information
- Name.
- Civic address and mailing address.
- Telephone number.
- Emergency or alternate contact.
Dog Information
- Dog’s name, breed, and approximate age.
- Whether the dog is male or female.
- Whether the dog is spayed or neutered.
- A recent photo of the dog.
- Identification information, such as a microchip, tattoo, or special markings.
You may also include any other information that may help identify your dog, such as temperament, inoculations, or other identifying characteristics.
Fees
Dogs one year of age and older.
Dogs less than one year of age.
Required when ownership of a registered dog changes.
For replacing a lost or damaged tag.
How to Buy or Receive a Dog Tag
Dog tags can be purchased in person at the Municipal Office in Arichat or by mail.
- To buy in person, bring the completed Dog Registration Form and payment to the Municipal Office.
- To receive a tag by mail, send the completed Dog Registration Form and a cheque for the correct fee.

Change of Dog Ownership
If you sell or transfer ownership of a registered dog, you must notify the Municipality within 30 days. Include the new owner’s name and address, a description of the dog, and the dog’s registration number. A $10 change of ownership fee applies. Payments can be made in person or by mail by cheque.
Dog Owner Responsibilities
Dog owners are responsible for licensing their dog, keeping the dog under control, preventing persistent barking, preventing attacks or damage, removing dog waste, and reporting a change of ownership within 30 days.

Penalties
Violations of the Dog Control By-law may result, upon conviction, in fines ranging from $100 to $5,000.
