Volunteer of the Month
Volunteers are the foundation of our communities and of Richmond County as a whole. Their passion, dedication, and selfless commitment strengthen our communities, support local organizations, and enrich the lives of those around them.
To recognize the many volunteers, groups, and organizations that help shape Richmond County, we are pleased to expand our recognition program to include the following:
- Richmond County Volunteer of the Month
This recognition celebrates a Richmond County volunteer who has made a significant and positive impact within their community through their dedication, service, and commitment to helping others.
- In Memoriam Volunteer Recognition
This recognition honours individuals who have passed away but whose passion, generosity, and selfless dedication continue to inspire and strengthen the community organizations they served. Their legacy lives on through the lasting impact they made and the lives they touched.
- Richmond County Group/Organization Recognition
Community groups and organizations play a vital role in the strength, well-being, and vibrancy of Richmond County. Through their collective commitment, compassion, and service, they foster connections, address local needs, and enhance the quality of life for residents. This recognition celebrates the invaluable contributions these groups and organizations make to our communities every day.

Volunteer for the Month, July 2023
Lorraine King
Lorraine King began volunteering in St. Francis De Sales Parish, Lower River Inhabitants approximately thirty years ago teaching religion to students and candidates preparing for First Communion and Confirmation. During this time, she was also a member of the Riverdale Credit Union Board of Directors and the Secretary for the Home and School Association of the Walter Fougere Education Centre.
Presently, Lorraine is a member of the St. Francis De Sales Parish Council, Liturgical Committee and Parish Finance Committee. She can be found contributing to her community in a variety of ways such as preparing church linens and vestments weekly, as well as for special occasions such as Christmas, weddings, funerals, baptisms. You will also find her supporting fundraising projects for her community. Her involvement in events and activities is very instrumental to their success.

Volunteer of the Month, June 2023
Cheryl Howie
Cheryl Howie and her husband have relocated to Loch Lomond and made it their home. She has become a valuable member of her community, volunteering at the community hall and assisting with events held by the Loch Lomond Volunteer Fire Department. She spent many hours painting the basement and displayed some of her artwork on the walls. She has committed her time to work on completing the kitchen to have it ready to host summer events. She enjoys baking and art, two of the many skills that she utilizes to contribute to her community.
Cheryl is a true inspiration to the women in her community by encouraging others to get involved. She hosts art classes and enjoys teaching others new skills and the benefits of being a volunteer. Her community is very grateful for her passion, and ongoing support.

Volunteer of the Month, May 2023
Marie & Conrad Fougere
Together, Marie and Conrad are the epitome of a volunteer couple in their community. They are very active in their volunteer efforts from cleaning the church to being dedicated caretakers of the Visitation Parlour.
Conrad is the Chairperson for the St. John the Baptist Graveyard Committee. Both he and Marie are often seen cleaning and repairing the stones during the summer months. Conrad has served on the parish council, and coached baseball and hockey for several years, while Marie was known to be the statistician for the sports teams that their sons participated in.
Marie can also be found volunteering and giving her time to the River Bourgeois Festival dinners and potluck suppers, as well as visiting the Richmond Villa Nursing Home residents in addition to providing baked goods for community events and neighbours.

Volunteer of the Month, April 2023
Paul Boudreau
Paul has been an active volunteer in his community for many decades. As a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1976, he’s held several positions, with his current role being Past Grant Knight. Paul plays an integral role in the Christmas Turkey Dinner Boxes initiative that is organized by the Knights which serves those in need on Isle Madame. He has committed a lot of his time to the Our Lady of Assumption Parish in Arichat, ensuring the facility is available to the public daily, inventory is replenished, a member of the Parish Choir, Eucharistic Minister and also a member of the Parish Council, as well as a member of the Richmond County Men’s Choir.
Paul is also one of the founding members of the Isle Madame Food Bank. Through his efforts, he coordinates the volunteer group, receives calls from clients and works on the distribution of goods to those in need on a bi-weekly basis. He was also part of the Red Cross equipment loan program for approximately 18 years and has provided coaching to Minor Hockey and Minor Baseball in the past. He’s contributed to the door-to-door campaign for organizations such as the Cancer Society, Red Cross and CNIB.

Volunteer for the Month, March 2023
Henry Samson & Darren MacRae
Darren MacRae and Henry Samson have worked together on many initiatives for the Barachois Trail Association. Together, they have dedicated countless hours to various projects from organizing heavy equipment resources to repairing an abandoned rail corridor, which has had a significant impact on shaping the trail into the Richmond County Rail Trail, a multi-use trail that many Richmond County residents come to love. Both Darren and Henry can be found on the trail, almost daily, fixing and filling potholes and keeping the trail groomed for users to enjoy. The combined time and effort of Darren and Henry is showcased in the well-maintained trail that is available for all to access.
