Volunteers are the foundation of our communities and of Richmond County as a whole. Their passion, dedication, and selfless commitment strengthen our communities, support local organizations, and enrich the lives of those around them.
To recognize the many volunteers, groups, and organizations that help shape Richmond County, we are pleased to expand our recognition program to include the following:
- Richmond County Volunteer of the Month
This recognition celebrates a Richmond County volunteer who has made a significant and positive impact within their community through their dedication, service, and commitment to helping others.
- In Memoriam Volunteer Recognition
This recognition honours individuals who have passed away but whose passion, generosity, and selfless dedication continue to inspire and strengthen the community organizations they served. Their legacy lives on through the lasting impact they made and the lives they touched.
- Richmond County Group/Organization Recognition
Community groups and organizations play a vital role in the strength, well-being, and vibrancy of Richmond County. Through their collective commitment, compassion, and service, they foster connections, address local needs, and enhance the quality of life for residents. This recognition celebrates the invaluable contributions these groups and organizations make to our communities every day.

Volunteer for the Month, December 2023
Aaron Marchand
As the Chief of the Louisdale & District Fire Department, Aaron consistently demonstrates unwavering dedication to both the department and his community. He has been an integral part of the department since joining at a young age, consistently giving his utmost effort. Aaron is ready to spring into action in any situation and actively works to enhance the department through member training, ensuring sufficient equipment, and boosting morale.
Beyond the primary focus on community safety in his role as Chief, Aaron eagerly participates in various events throughout the county; always finding ways to incorporate the Fire Department and extend a helping hand. His involvement also extends to the Louisdale Ladies Auxiliary, where he plays a crucial role in ensuring seamless coordination between both the Fire department and the Auxiliary for maximum collaboration.
Aaron is also an active member of the Barachois Trails Association, dedicating his time to maintaining the multi-purpose trail in and around Louisdale. His commitment plays a vital role in ensuring the continued well-being of the community through this essential recreational resource.

Volunteer for the Month, November 2023
Charlene Bonin
Charlene stands as a pillar of compassion and community spirit in Richmond County. Her commitment to community service goes above and beyond to extend a helping hand to those in need. It is not uncommon to spot her offering rides to community members or running errands for community members on her way home from work.
Charlene's dedication to volunteerism spans many years. Her active involvement with three local boards speaks volumes about her commitment to the betterment of the community. Serving on The Angle Fund, The New Horizon Seniors Club, and the St. Anne’s Auxiliary, Charlene lends her time, expertise, and passion to various causes, making a positive impact on the lives of those she serves.
Beyond her board commitments, Charlene extends her volunteering efforts to La Picasse, where she is an integral part of the community hub. Whether it's working behind the bar, waiting tables with a warm smile, or contributing her creative touch to event decorations, Charlene's versatility shines through.
Charlene's impact reverberates far and wide, leaving a mark on the hearts of those fortunate enough to witness her unwavering commitment to the betterment of others.

Volunteer of the Month, October 2023
Kenneth LeBlanc
Kenneth LeBlanc is a volunteer with a heart of gold. He is a kind, generous, and an unassuming man with a great demeanor. He can often be seen with a permanent smile on his face.
Kenneth plays a vital role in the community, providing the repairs at the senior’s club as well as providing regular maintenance for the Visitation Parlour including mowing, and maintenance of the building when the regular caretaker is away. He also gives his time to provide routine reviews of the community gym equipment, ensuring it is in a safe condition for all to use, as well to the weekly Café Luncheon and Men’s Breakfast.
Kenneth supports the Mariner's fundraisers and can often be found sharing his barbeque skills at events in the community. He is always ready to assist with any project at a moment's notice.
Kenneth is a fisher with a generous giving heart, who during fishing season, shares his catch with others. Members of Kenneth’s community describe him as someone who is a behind-the-scenes type of guy who is very deserving of this recognition. Kenneth is a pillar in his community. His community is very grateful for the countless hours he gives of his time and efforts to all events, activities, and occasions.

Volunteer for the Month, September 2023
Sara Joyce
Sara Joyce is one of those volunteers who is always eager and willing to help out and does so with a smile on her face and with cause in her heart. She is an active member of her community and volunteers for multiple organizations. She is a member of the Louisdale Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Louisdale Lions Club where you can find her at their monthly breakfast. She is a member of the St. Louis CWL as a co-convenor for service who most recently provided food bank boxes to local establishments to replenish the local food bank. She is also a member of the St. Louis Parish Hall Committee where she volunteers her time to work in the canteen as well as the weekly bingos.
Her community is very grateful for the countless hours she gives of her time and efforts to all events, activities and occasions.

Volunteer for the Month, August 2023
Gerry Samson
Gerry is a very dedicated individual who is always there to assist his community, including the Legion and its Veterans. Comrade Gerry received a Certificate of
Appreciations for all the work that he assisted with on the Sick & Visiting Committee of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Gerry was CIL Officer with the 235 Arrow Sea Cadet Corps assisting the young cadets to reach their goals and potential. Gerry has received his life membership with the
RCL Branch 150, along with the Queen's Diamond & Platinum Jubilee medals.
Gerry is always ready and willing to use his singing and guitar playing talents to entertain the residents at the St. Anne Community & Nursing Care Centre, local benefits
as well as churches. He assists numerous volunteer organizations with the fundraising, such as, the Legion Breakfast and Fish Fry meals, along with assisting
organizations in need with maintenance duties.
Gerry is a very unique and wonderful individual who is definitely worthy of this recognition.
