Volunteers are the foundation of our communities and of Richmond County as a whole. Their passion, dedication, and selfless commitment strengthen our communities, support local organizations, and enrich the lives of those around them.
To recognize the many volunteers, groups, and organizations that help shape Richmond County, we are pleased to expand our recognition program to include the following:
- Richmond County Volunteer of the Month
This recognition celebrates a Richmond County volunteer who has made a significant and positive impact within their community through their dedication, service, and commitment to helping others.
- In Memoriam Volunteer Recognition
This recognition honours individuals who have passed away but whose passion, generosity, and selfless dedication continue to inspire and strengthen the community organizations they served. Their legacy lives on through the lasting impact they made and the lives they touched.
- Richmond County Group/Organization Recognition
Community groups and organizations play a vital role in the strength, well-being, and vibrancy of Richmond County. Through their collective commitment, compassion, and service, they foster connections, address local needs, and enhance the quality of life for residents. This recognition celebrates the invaluable contributions these groups and organizations make to our communities every day.

Volunteer of the Month, May 2024
Robert Goyetche
Over the past 10 years, Robert has been the President of the Fleur de Lis Seniors Club leading the planning and execution of all the club's events. During this time, he has been instrumental in coordinating the club's ticket sales, bookings, and event promotions.
Robert chairs the Strait Richmond Hospital board and is the Co-Chair of the Seniors Action Coalition. He is the Treasurer of the Louisdale Lion's Club and an active board member for the Louisdale Community Homes.
When Robert is not attending board meetings, he can often be found managing the rentals for the Louisdale Lion's Hall and lending a hand at their monthly breakfast making delicious, scrambled eggs.

Doreen Boudreau
Doreen is a vital volunteer to her community. Her dedication and reliability over the past thirty years have made a significant impact to many organizations, including the CWL. Coordinating Eucharistic Ministers and Readers for fifteen years is no small feat, and organizing parish activities and fundraisers demonstrates her commitment to enhancing community life.
Her positive attitude and ability to see the good in everyone contribute to the friendly atmosphere within the parish and beyond. Doreen's contributions have touched the lives of many, enriching not only the community members but also the affiliated organizations she's worked with. It's people like Doreen who truly make a difference in the world around them. In the words of many “she is small but mighty!”.

Volunteer of the Month, March 2024
Jeanette Jeffrey
Jeanette Jeffrey is a volunteer whose dedication extends across numerous organizations, notably the Louisdale CWL, Louisdale Lion’s Club, The Fleur De Lis Seniors Club, and the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society. As the coordinator for events such as "Daisy Day" and "Sunflower Day", she exemplifies commitment, compassion for others, and leadership. In the past, she has generously volunteered her time to provide night lunches to patients at the Strait Richmond Hospital.
Jeanette also remains a steadfast presence at the Louisdale parish bingo on Monday nights, where her unwavering volunteer spirit shines.

Volunteer of the Month, February 2024
Howard MacIntyre
Howard has been a long-standing member of the board of the Johnstown Community Development Cooperative (JCDC), serving as treasurer as well as most recently as Chair. Howard has been a driving force for many successful community projects such as the Johnstown Landing as part of the Canadian Trails and the Johnstown Outdoor Market. Howard’s ongoing work ensures the upkeep of the Johnstown Landing property.
As the Chair and Treasurer, of the Bras d’Or Lakers, he has been instrumental in organizing various community events, including the annual summer barbecues, and the St. Patrick’s Day evenings, where his Irish stew draws a crowd. Howard is always willing to lend a hand without fanfare or expectation of credit.
Howard also represents the Bras d’Or Lakers at the Richmond County Seniors Take Action Coalition.

Volunteer of the Month, January 2024
Jean Kehoe
Jean Kehoe's tireless dedication to the Rocky Bay Irish Club has profoundly impacted the local community. Through her extensive efforts in creating, directing, and supporting the Shamrock Players, Jean has become a vital force in the club's success. Her fundraising initiatives demonstrate strong leadership and ensures the club's sustainability.
In more recent endeavors, Jean has taken the lead in organizing two memorable John Prine Tribute shows, numerous engaging trivia nights, and multiple Mrs. Brown's Boys dinner theatres that attracted attendees from beyond Halifax, bringing laughter and joy to all. Throughout these events, Jean not only showcased her dedication but also provided unwavering support to a dedicated team of volunteers, always with kindness and a warm smile.
