The Municipality of the County of Richmond, in partnership with the Village of St. Peter’s, is seeking one community representative to serve on the Inclusive, Diverse, Equitable, Accessible (IDEA) Committee. We are also inviting applications for one community representative to join the Cape Breton Local Immigration Partnership (CBLIP).
The IDEA Committee plays an important role in helping:
- Identify and remove barriers to participation in local programs, services, and
facilities - Support inclusion, diversity, and accessibility in everything we do
- Build partnerships that make Richmond County a more welcoming and equitable
place for all
We welcome individuals with lived experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Individual with Ethnocultural and/or linguistic diversity
- Racialized individuals
- Gender and sexual diverse individuals
- Indigenous individuals
- LGBTQ2S+ individuals
- Individuals with disabilities or represent an organization that represents people with disabilities
- Individuals that may not have lived experience related to one or more of the dimensions of diversity; however, would like to support the work of the IDEA Advisory through their allyship
The CBLIP plays an important role in helping make Cape Breton a welcoming and inclusive place for newcomers. The partnership focuses on helping newcomers settle, feel included, and build a strong sense of belonging in our communities.

Public Notice: Dog Control Update
The Municipality of the County of Richmond wishes to inform residents that, with the recent retirement of our Dog Control By-law Officer, the RCMP will be stepping in to help while we work to fill the position. The RCMP is now available to assist the County with dog control matters.

Municipal Policy Updates
The Municipal Council approved several policy updates at the February 24, 2026, Regular Council Meeting.
- Advertising and Sponsorship Policy * New
This policy applies to advertising and sponsorship requests submitted to the Municipality by eligible organizations, community groups, or individuals applying through an eligible host organization. For more information, visit https://www.richmondcounty.ca/grants-and-programs.html
- Travel and Expense Policy * Amended

Bras d'Or Lakes Collaborative Environmental Planning Initiative (CEPI): Listening to the People of the Lakes Workshop is coming up fast - March 10-12, 2026!
The CEPI 2026 Workshop brings together community members, partners, knowledge holders, practitioners, and decision-makers to listen, discuss, reflect, and help shape the future of the Bras d’Or Lake and watershed. Grounded in collaboration and guided by Etuaptmumk/Two-Eyed Seeing, this three-day gathering creates space for meaningful dialogue and shared visioning that will help CEPI assess the current state of the Bras d’or communities, and if a change in focus is required.
