FireSmart™ Canada is a national program that helps Canadians increase neighbourhood resilience to wildfire and minimize its negative impacts.
It was founded over 20 years ago to address common concerns about wildfires in the wildland-urban interface.
With a changing climate, the threat of wildfire has increased significantly for everyone, including those living outside of the wildland-urban interface. We all have a part to play when it comes to preventing wildfires and reducing risk. Richmond County, NS – Richmond County Council approved its 2023/2024 budget at a Special Council meeting on June 1, 2023, resulting in no increases to either the residential or commercial tax rates. The budget comes in balanced at just over $16.8 million with strategic investments in communities, health, infrastructure and growth.

Nature Conservancy of Canada suggests leaving lawns alone in May. This campaign aims to help pollinators, like honeybees and bumblebees by letting green spaces grow during the month of May to promote healthy habitats for our native pollinators. Pollinators play an important role in our environment by promoting the healthy production of many plants and crops. Letting our green spaces grow, allows pollinators to thrive and do their good work.
