Volunteer of the Month, May 2025
Stacey MacRae
Since her transfer to Cape Breton in 2009, Stacey has been a true community champion, consistently promoting the region and everything it has to offer.
When she’s not serving as a dedicated RCMP officer, Stacey can be found leading spring and summer cleanup efforts, often seen collecting litter along the roadsides of Richmond County. So far this season, she has gathered an impressive 83 bags of garbage, well on her way to reaching her goal of 100 bags.
In addition to her law enforcement duties, Stacey is actively involved in numerous community initiatives, including local bike safety rodeos and the beloved Festival of the Trees.

Eleanor Boudreau
Eleanor Boudreau has a heart of gold and is always the first to offer a helping hand. Whether it’s a pan of squares, a pot of soup, or a piece of fabric, Eleanor is quick to respond.
Eleanor currently serves as Co-President of the St. Joseph’s CWL and has been a devoted member for over 45 years. She is an active member of the parish, serving as both a Eucharistic Minister and an Altar Server.
As a dedicated member of the Isle Madame New Horizon Seniors’ Club, she has served as treasurer, auditor, and is an active community participant. In addition, Eleanor dedicates her time to the Busy Bee Quilting Club, making quilts and pillowcases for donation to various organizations.

Peggy MacNeil
Peggy MacNeil, president of the Riverdale Seniors Club, is affectionately known as the community nurse, willing to be there to support someone in need. Peggy has a deep passion for supporting homebound seniors and hospital patients in need of care, giving her time and energy wholeheartedly, and sometimes giving them a ride to and from appointments.
Through her dedication to the Riverdale Seniors Club, Peggy has created opportunities for seniors to connect, form new friendships, and build a stronger sense of community.

Illiana Wagner-Thorell
Illiana is a student from Richmond Academy who has made a lasting community impact through her volunteer work with the D’Escousse Civic Improvement Society, where she has been an active member for several years.
Illiana’s contributions are both diverse and meaningful. She lends a helping hand at monthly community breakfasts, children’s events, and the renowned Celtic Colours International Music Festival. Whether serving meals, setting up events, or engaging with visitors, her enthusiasm and willingness to assist wherever needed reflect her deep commitment to building a stronger, more connected community.
Through volunteering, youth like Illiana not only make a positive impact but also gain a sense of fulfillment and purpose.

Charlie Martell
Charlie Martell is a catalyst of change for his community. Through his generosity, leadership, and vision he donated his time and supplies to help support a community initiative that brought together numerous volunteer efforts in Richmond County.
On December 29, 2024, a long-time L’Ardoise community member lost their home to a devastating fire. Without hesitation, Charlie stepped forward, offering support to help rebuild.
His efforts inspired local contractors, community members, and business owners to come together to make this new home a reality. Charlie's ability to unite others, in a time of need, did not go unnoticed, he is a true community champion.
