Illiana Wagner-Thorell
Illiana is a student from Richmond Academy who has made a lasting community impact through her volunteer work with the D’Escousse Civic Improvement Society, where she has been an active member for several years.
Illiana’s contributions are both diverse and meaningful. She lends a helping hand at monthly community breakfasts, children’s events, and the renowned Celtic Colours International Music Festival. Whether serving meals, setting up events, or engaging with visitors, her enthusiasm and willingness to assist wherever needed reflect her deep commitment to building a stronger, more connected community.
Through volunteering, youth like Illiana not only make a positive impact but also gain a sense of fulfillment and purpose.

Volunteer of the Month, January 2025
Charlie Martell
Charlie Martell is a catalyst of change for his community. Through his generosity, leadership, and vision he donated his time and supplies to help support a community initiative that brought together numerous volunteer efforts in Richmond County.
On December 29, 2024, a long-time L’Ardoise community member lost their home to a devastating fire. Without hesitation, Charlie stepped forward, offering support to help rebuild.
His efforts inspired local contractors, community members, and business owners to come together to make this new home a reality. Charlie's ability to unite others, in a time of need, did not go unnoticed, he is a true community champion.

Volunteer of the Month, December 2024
Arthur & Henrietta Doary
Henrietta and Arthur are cornerstones of our community. Henrietta began playing the church organ at 11 years old, and sixty years later, she continued to share her talent. She has also led the church choir, and is involved in many local charities.
Arthur’s legacy is etched into the local church, where he designed and crafted the stained-glass windows, the crosses on the doors, and the altar. Known as the go-to handyman, he is always available for repairs. Arthur has also served as a Eucharistic minister, reader, and member of both the parish council and Liturgical Committee for over 50 years.
Arthur was a founding member of the Tara Lynne Center, designing and drafting its plans, as well as those for the River Bourgeois Visitation Parlour. Together, Henrietta and Arthur exemplify unwavering dedication, creativity, and service to their community.

Volunteer of the Month, November 2024
Leon LeBlanc
Leon joined the Isle Madame Fire Department in 1976 and became Fire Chief in 1983, a role he held for 25 years until his retirement in 2008. Beyond his firefighting career, Leon served on the Board of Directors for the Waverly Firefighting School and was an active member of the Strait Area Mutual Aid organization.
Leon spent several years coaching minor hockey, showcasing his commitment to supporting youth. His passion for music allowed him to volunteer at the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home, Richmond Villa, and St. Anne’s Centre, sharing his talent and bringing joy to residents. Always ready to lend a hand, Leon frequently volunteered at community benefits, embodying the true spirit of generosity.

Volunteer of the Month, October 2024
Evelyn Landry
Evelyn is the “go-to person” for all things in the St. Louis Hall kitchen. Most weeks, you can find her cooking, cleaning, organizing, or even painting. She oversees food orders for local fundraisers, manages volunteer work schedules, and coordinates volunteer roles.
In addition to organizing funeral luncheons and serving as a liaison for parish arrangements, Evelyn chairs the Louisdale CWL’s “Faith Committee” and volunteers regularly at the Louisdale Lions Club’s monthly breakfast.
Beyond her CWL and breakfast duties, Evelyn delivers meals and treats to community members in need, spreading kindness throughout the community.
