World Elder Abuse Awareness Day - Building safe, supportive, and connected communities for seniors.
June 15, 2026, marks the 20th annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. In recognition of the day, Warden Lois Landry, on behalf of Municipal Council, has proclaimed June 15 as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day in Richmond County and encourages everyone to help prevent elder abuse.
Elder abuse affects 1 in 10 seniors in Canada, and it is much more common than most people know. Feeling alone and being treated unfairly because of age can make it worse. We all have a part to play in stopping it.
You can help in simple ways. Check in on an older neighbour. Speak up when you hear unfair comments about age. Help older adults stay connected to their community. Small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
We thank the Seniors Take Action Coalition of Richmond County, the Seniors Safety and Inclusion Coordinator, and the many caring people who quietly and generously support older adults every day. Your kindness helps make Richmond County a better place for everyone.
