Bienvenue en Acadie (An Acadian Welcome) - Celtic Colors Concert

This afternoon, Maxim and Gervais Cormier will offer Le Bruit Court dans la Ville an Acadian welcome to Petit-de-Grat on Isle Madame, one of the oldest Acadian communities on the island. The father-son guitar duo come from Chéticamp, another Cape Breton community where the Acadian culture, language, and music has endured for centuries. Gervais, a composer and multi-instrumentalist, and his son Maxim, a guitarist, composer, producer and educator, are a multifaceted pair with international experience. Gervais has toured with John Allan Cameron among many other Cape Breton performers. Maxim is one of Canada’s most decorated musicians, known to audiences both as a “genre-defying guitar virtuoso” and an award-winning composer. With training in classical, jazz, and world music, Cormier strives to reimagine what guitar mastery can sound like. A Festival Volunteer Drive’ers Association “Big Sampie” winner, Maxim has performed internationally in Scotland, England, Australia, and France. Maxim and Gervais have been playing on stage together for more than ten years and released two albums as a duo. Le Bruit Court dans la Ville’s music is deeply rooted and spontaneous, offering fresh takes on centuries-old heritage, served up with a side of new, original music. André Marchand’s meticulous accompaniment and gorgeous vocals complement Normand Miron’s pulsing accordion, grit-and-polish vocals, and irrepressible spirit, while Lisa Ornstein’s fiddle combines soaring harmonies with fiery tunes learned over years of kitchen visits with old masters. Enchanting laments, catchy call-and-response songs, and vibrant dance music from the Québec and Acadian repertoire are offered with warmth, sensitivity, and finesse.
