The Richmond Artists Alliance invites kids aged 6-12 to a series of collaborative art-making workshops at the D’Escousse Civic Improvement Society Hall. Free of charge!

The project will promote intergenerational connection through creative learning and encourage artistic confidence. Taught by seniors, younger adults and assisted by local youth, a variety of media and techniques will be explored, including rug hooking, pastels and pencil drawing, watercolour and photography.

Watercolour and Special Techniques - November 8, 20261–3 pm with Asya Tanusiuk and Elaine Mandrona

Children will create a colourful underwater scene featuring a large whale and other sea creatures using watercolour and salt-painting techniques. They will also learn how salt creates beautiful textures that resemble water, bubbles and ocean currents.

Photography and Beyond - November 15, 20261–3 pm with Archie Nadon

This workshop will be about more than just snapshots and selfies. Kids will be taught how to see light, understand framing and composition, and try out new and sometimes crazy poses, to level up every participant’s skill and appreciation. Then they’ll be mixing media, including making photo buttons and fridge magnets.

To wrap things up and celebrate

The kids will learn how art displays are curated and arranged, culminating with a kids’ art show at the D’Escousse Civic Improvement Society Hall during the community breakfast event on December 15, 2026.

This project is in partnership with the D’Escousse Civic Improvement Society Hall and CBU Art Gallery, and funded by the Nova Scotia Wellness Fund.
