On Monday, December 1, 2025, new provincial Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations will take effect across Nova Scotia. These regulations shift the operational and financial responsibility for recycling packaging and paper products to the companies that produce, import, or sell them.
The Municipality of the County of Richmond has opted into the program and will continue to provide curbside recycling collection for residential properties. Your collection day and service provider will remain the same.
Under the new regulations, the Province determines which materials are accepted for recycling. Beginning December 1, residents across Nova Scotia will follow a consistent list of accepted materials, meaning some items will now be added to curbside recycling, while others will be removed.
Recycling Routine
Residents should continue sorting recyclables into blue bags and placing them at the curb on their regular collection day. The Municipality will share updates as they become available from Circular Materials.
