Council for a Day Contest Open to Grade 5 and 6 Students
The Municipality of the County of Richmond invites Grade 5 and 6 students to enter the 2026 Council for a Day Contest. Students can share an idea to help make Richmond County a better place to live. The contest leads up to Municipal Awareness Week, which takes place from November 1 to 7. The week helps people learn about local government, its services, and the decisions it makes for Richmond County. Five students will be chosen to serve as Warden and Councillors for a day and see how Council makes decisions.
How to Enter
- Choose an idea. Think of one way to make Richmond County a better place to live.
- Create your entry. Make a video, song, poster, poem, or letter.
- Send it to us. Email it to , mail it to P.O. Box 120, Arichat, NS B0E 1A0, or drop it off at the Municipal Administration Building, 2357 Highway 206.
Key Dates
- Contest opens: October 1, 2026
- Entry deadline: October 21, 2026, at 4:00 p.m.
- Winners contacted: Monday, October 26, 2026
- Winners announced: Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at the Regular Council Meeting
- Council for a Day: Tuesday, November 24, 2026, from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m.
How Entries Will Be Judged
Entries will be judged on:
- a creative idea;
- an idea that is your own; and
- how clearly you share your idea.
What Winners Will Do
The five winners will:
- tour the Municipal Administration Building;
- enjoy a meal with the Warden and Councillors;
- take part in a mock Council meeting;
- be interviewed by Telile Community Television; and
- receive a Richmond County prize pack.
Who Can Enter
Grade 5 and 6 students who attend school or are homeschooled in Richmond County can enter. A parent or guardian must complete and sign the consent section on the pdf back of the flyer(944 KB) . Submit the signed page with the entry. For an email entry, include a clear photo or scan of the signed consent section.
