The Autism Nova Scotia flag was raised over the Municipality of the County of Richmond on April 3, 2023, by Warden Amanda Mombourquette.
Warden Mombourquette proclaimed April to be Autism Acceptance Month in Richmond County. The proclamation encourages all residents to recognize the Autistic individuals/people with autism, family members, caregivers, educators, and other professionals who strive to make Nova Scotia an inclusive and accessible place for all to call home. Autism Nova Scotia Strait Area Chapter
Autism Nova Scotia Strait Area Chapter is a community-based organization that builds understanding, acceptance and inclusion for individuals on the Autism Spectrum and their families through leadership, advocacy, training and programming across the lifespan. They offer the following support:
- Workshops and programs to support parents, families, professionals
- Response to individual requests for support either from individuals with ASD or caregivers/families
- Support to professionals to connect clients with resources
- Connecting clients with existing programs and assistance navigating those programs
- Individualized programs where appropriate
- Educational materials
- Up-to-date information on resources and studies
- Connectivity with other chapters
- Fundraising for the chapter’s social inclusion activities
