Richmond County is calling on community-minded individuals to join our Agencies, Boards, Commissions, and Committees (ABCCs).

Municipal Council values community involvement and appreciates the contributions of volunteers in shaping a strong and inclusive municipality. In recognition of your time and dedication, we provide an honorarium for each meeting attended.

Current Opportunities

Strait of Canso Superport Board

Vacancy:  One (1)

Term: Three (3) Years
Meeting frequency: Six (6) times per year

The Strait of Canso Superport Board oversees the development and promotion of the Strait of Canso as a vital transportation and shipping hub, with objectives including the planning and upgrading of port infrastructure, identifying opportunities for cargo and traffic, and advocating on harbor management issues. The Board is made up of volunteer directors who bring leadership and a deep understanding of marine issues, with members representing various sectors such as shippers, ship service providers, municipalities bordering the Strait, the provincial government, the Strait Area Chamber of Commerce, and First Nations communities.

Recreation Advisory Committee

Vacancy:  One (1)

Term: Five (5) Years
Meeting frequency: Minimum of four (4) times per year.

The Recreation Advisory Committee supports the development of inclusive and accessible recreation programs and events across Richmond County. It provides recommendations to Council and the Recreation Department to help enhance the quality of life for residents.

Cape Breton Local Immigration Partnership (CBLIP) Council

Vacancy:  One (1)

Term: Five (5) Year Term
Meeting frequency: Minimum of four (4) times per year

CBLIP Council members represent organizations that provide services to newcomers, including each municipality in Unama’ki – Cape Breton. Members serve as liaisons and champions of the CBLIP vision and are required to participate in four meetings per year. The CBLIP Council members help to identify gaps and opportunities related to newcomer settlement and support the development and evaluation of CBLIP strategies and activities.

Bras d’Or Lake Biosphere Region Association (BLBRA) Board

Vacancy:  One (1)

Term: Three (3) Years
Meeting frequency: Six (6) times per year

The Bras d'Or Lake Biosphere Region Association (BLBRA) is a volunteer, not-for-profit board composed of individuals with diverse expertise, collaborating to achieve our strategic objectives. Member contributions play a key role in advancing initiatives focused on biological conservation, sustainable development, and community capacity building.

Destination Cape Breton Association Board (DCBAB)

Vacancy:  One (1)

Term: Three (3) Years
Meeting frequency: Six (6) times per year

Destination Cape Breton is the official destination marketing and management organization for Unama’ki-Cape Breton Island. The organization’s mandate is to responsibly promote and grow the tourism industry in the region by implementing effective destination marketing strategies and supporting strategic destination development. Through these efforts, Destination Cape Breton works to enhance the visibility of the island as a premier travel destination while fostering sustainable growth in the local tourism sector.
