Published: Friday, 15 May 2020 09:40
We would like to take this time to acknowledge Colleen Morgan as Richmond County's Volunteer of the Month for May 2020!
"Colleen Morgan was approached by Mary A. Hureau in 1982 to become a volunteer for the Palliative Care Program at the Strait Richmond Hospital.
Colleen was already familiar with the hospital as she started volunteering before 1982 bringing cool drinks and cookies to patients and also volunteered with the "Night Lunch Program" at the hospital. Later on, Colleen did volunteer work with Dr. Howard's clinic at the Strait Richmond Hospital. Colleen said that they were great years and she enjoyed the time she spent there.
When Colleen began volunteering with the palliative patients, she was welcomed by both patients and families. Her infectious smile and caring nature warmed the hearts of those who welcomed her into their lives. Colleen has gone above and beyond to make patients feel the comforts of home, she is always ready to take a patient on even on short notice, she has spent numerous hours with patients and their families.
Colleen says that the Palliative Care Program is great, the staff has been really good and she is still on a journey with end of life patients and the families who let her share their lives with her.
Being part of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Strait Richmond Hospital is another volunteer aspect of Colleen's life.
We want to thank Colleen for her important work in her community and our county!
As Volunteer of the Month, Colleen will receive a plaque and $150 of gift cards to local businesses of her choosing.
